Natural language processing is everything AI does with human language: understanding questions, summarizing documents, translating between languages, detecting sentiment, and generating text.For decades NLP progressed slowly with hand-built rules. Large language models changed that almost overnight - the same underlying approach now reads, writes, and translates at a level that used to require separate specialized systems. How well it works still varies by language, which matters for smaller Balkan languages.
