Montenegro Hosts Eastern Europe’s Machine Learning Summer School

Montenegro will host the 2026 Eastern European Machine Learning Summer School in Cetinje from July 27 to August 1, bringing together students, researchers and technology professionals from across the region. The six-day programme will include lectures, practical sessions and discussions covering artificial intelligence and machine learning. It will be held at Hotel Grand in Cetinje and conducted in English. EEML is primarily an educational and research programme rather than a conventional technology conference. It is designed to connect emerging researchers and students with experienced AI professionals and international experts. This year’s edition is supported by organisations and institutions from across the region, including the Montenegrin AI Association, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research and Development of Serbia and AI Albania. For Montenegro, hosting EEML is an opportunity to strengthen its position within the growing Western Balkan AI community. It also gives regional students and researchers access to advanced training and professional networks that are often difficult to find locally. The event comes as Western Balkan countries increasingly discuss artificial intelligence as part of their economic and education strategies. However, the region still faces limited research funding, a shortage of specialised programmes and the continued departure of skilled professionals. EEML cannot resolve those challenges alone, but it can help build stronger connections between regional universities, researchers and AI organisations. For one week, Cetinje will become an important meeting point for Eastern Europe’s machine-learning community. The greater test will be whether the partnerships created there continue after the programme ends.
