Two AI Summits Put Skopje at the Centre of the Regional Tech Conversation

Skopje will host two major technology gatherings within less than two weeks this autumn, bringing AI professionals, founders, investors, researchers and technology companies to North Macedonia for two events with distinctly different formats. AI Tech Summit “Filip Avramchev” will take place on 22 and 23 September at the National Opera and Ballet, followed by Startup Revolution AI Summit from 1 to 4 October. Together, the events reflect a technology community in North Macedonia that is becoming increasingly active around artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and the infrastructure needed to turn new technology into working products and businesses. They are also approaching that conversation from different directions. AI Tech Summit brings the focus directly to AI The 2026 edition of AI Tech Summit “Filip Avramchev” is structured around four parts: a Main Stage, AI Labs, an Expo and a student hackathon. Its programme is particularly focused on applied artificial intelligence, enterprise adoption, data infrastructure, robotics and the technical systems behind AI deployment. The announced speaker lineup includes professionals working across Microsoft, NVIDIA and a number of AI and technology companies. Among them is Fatos Ismali, Chief AI Architect at Microsoft, who is expected to address the challenge of taking AI systems from experimentation into production. Koen van den Berg, AI Factory and Data Centre Readiness Lead for EMEA at NVIDIA, will bring another part of the AI discussion to Skopje: computing infrastructure, AI-ready data centres and the growing concept of sovereign AI. The programme is also moving beyond generative AI. Recent additions include researchers and companies working in autonomous vehicles, humanoid robotics and physical AI, including systems designed to operate and make decisions outside the traditional computer interface. That gives the summit a strongly technical character, while its Labs, Expo and hackathon are intended to extend the programme beyond presentations and panel discussions. Startup Revolution connects AI with the startup economy Nine days later, Startup Revolution AI Summit will open in Skopje with a considerably broader startup and business focus. Running from 1 to 4 October, the event combines artificial intelligence with entrepreneurship, investment, cybersecurity, health technology, fintech, energy and climate technology. Its programme includes several stages, startup presentations, investor meetings, networking activities and sessions focused on the development of technology companies in Central and Southeast Europe. Startup Revolution is organised by Startup Club Skopje and positions AI as part of a wider conversation about how companies are created, financed and scaled. That distinction matters. While many technology conferences now include AI somewhere in their programmes, the rapid adoption of generative AI has increasingly blurred the line between an “AI company” and a company simply using AI as part of its product or operations. Startup Revolution appears set to explore that intersection directly, bringing founders and investors into the same programme as people working on AI and emerging technologies. Its October agenda includes dedicated tracks covering AI and emerging technologies alongside ecosystem development, data, healthtech, business and investment. Two different windows into the same ecosystem The proximity of the two events gives Skopje an unusual concentration of AI and technology activity over a short period. More importantly, their different formats offer two views of where the regional technology sector is heading. One is centred more closely on AI technology itself: how systems are built, deployed and connected with infrastructure, robotics and enterprise operations. The other places AI inside the broader machinery of startups, investment, company building and regional entrepreneurship. For North Macedonia, that combination may be more relevant than simply counting the number of AI events taking place. The larger question is what happens after the conferences finish: whether conversations turn into products, research collaborations, investments, new companies or stronger connections between North Macedonia and the wider European technology ecosystem.
