Serbia Starts Humanoid Robot Production in Šabac

Serbia has opened a new production line for humanoid robots in Šabac, bringing one of the country's most ambitious robotics projects into operation. The facility was launched on August 29 by Minth Group in partnership with Chinese robotics company AGIBOT. Serbia's Development Agency described it as the first serial production operation of humanoid robots in Europe. The first phase of the project represents an investment of €20 million and is located at Minth's existing production site in Šabac. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić attended the opening together with representatives of Minth Group, AGIBOT, the Serbian government and local authorities. The first robot produced at the facility was presented during the launch. Production starts with assembly The current operation is primarily an assembly line for humanoid robots. Serbian officials say the initial target is to assemble more than 5,000 robots annually at the Šabac facility, while the companies behind the project plan to expand production significantly over time. Minth has also indicated that its Serbian operations could eventually include other advanced technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles and battery systems. The larger plan centres on a proposed Robotics Industrial Park in Inđija. The project is expected to involve around €200 million in total investment, with future production capacity of up to 20,000 humanoid robots and robotic dogs per year. Those numbers remain planned production targets rather than current output. AGIBOT expands into Europe AGIBOT has become one of China's prominent companies in the rapidly developing humanoid robotics market. The company develops robots designed for industrial, commercial and service environments, combining artificial intelligence with computer vision, sensors and autonomous movement. The Serbian project gives AGIBOT a manufacturing presence in Europe while allowing Minth to expand beyond its traditional automotive manufacturing business. For Serbia, the partnership is significant because it brings physical AI manufacturing into an industrial base that has traditionally been associated with automotive components and other conventional manufacturing. More than another software investment Most AI development across the Balkans has so far been concentrated in software, IT services, startups, education and research. Humanoid robotics requires something different. Building these systems involves software and AI models, but also batteries, sensors, motors, electronics, precision components and complex manufacturing infrastructure. That makes the Šabac project particularly interesting for the region. If production expands beyond assembly and the planned robotics park in Inđija is completed, Serbia could become part of a wider European supply chain for humanoid robotics at a time when the industry is still taking shape. There are still questions about how quickly the operation can scale and how much of the manufacturing process will eventually take place locally. For now, however, the project has moved beyond announcements. The production line is open, the first robot has been assembled in Šabac, and Minth and AGIBOT are preparing for a much larger robotics operation in Serbia.
