Anthropic launches Claude Science, an AI workbench for scientific research Anthropic has introduced Claude Science, a new AI workbench designed to help scientists streamline research, analyze data, and manage complex computing workflows in one place. The company says the product is built for scientific work rather than as a new model, and it runs on Anthropic’s existing Claude models. The launch marks a broader push by Anthropic into life sciences and research infrastructure, with the company positioning Claude Science as a productivity layer for laboratories, universities, and biotech teams. Early examples shared by Anthropic and reported by media outlets suggest the platform may significantly reduce the time needed for tasks such as literature review, data analysis, and drafting research outputs. What Claude Science does Claude Science combines databases, coding tools, compute resources, and research workflows in a single workspace. According to Anthropic, it helps researchers analyze literature, run calculations, create figures and manuscripts, and trace outputs back to source code and environment details. The company also says the workbench is customizable, produces auditable artifacts, and offers flexible access to computing resources. The platform comes preconfigured with more than 60 scientific databases and can render specialized scientific materials such as 3D protein structures, genome browser tracks, and chemistry drawings. TechCrunch reported that Claude Science also includes a multi-agent workflow, with a main assistant coordinating tasks, sub-assistants handling specialized work, and a fact-checking layer reviewing citations and calculations before publication. Why it matters Anthropic is not pitching Claude Science as a breakthrough model release, but as a practical environment for scientific work. That distinction matters because many research teams do not only need stronger AI — they need better workflows, better traceability, and fewer fragmented tools. By focusing on the workflow layer, Anthropic is trying to make AI useful across the full research process rather than only at the model interface. The company says the new workbench may accelerate discovery and healthcare innovation by reducing friction in scientific analysis. Reuters reported that Anthropic is also using the launch to deepen its position in scientific research and manage-compute markets ahead of a possible IPO. For labs and biotech companies, that makes Claude Science both a product announcement and a signal of where AI infrastructure is heading next. Availability and access Claude Science is currently available in beta for users on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Anthropic is also backing the launch with a research support program for selected projects, including up to 50 Claude Science projects with credits of up to $30,000 each. Applications for that program are open through July 15, 2026, with projects set to run from September 1 to December 1, 2026. Anthropic named Novo Nordisk and the Allen Institute as early case study partners, indicating that the product is already being tested in real-world research environments. The company says those tests have shown meaningful efficiency gains, though independent verification will be important before broad conclusions are drawn.
